Neutering: This Is not the Time for “I Googled It and Made a Call.”

There are some topics where we laugh, share stories, say,
“Oh, my friend’s cat went through the same thing” —
and offer advice with warmth, kindness, and a little purr on the side.

And then… there are topics where we say, gently but firmly:
“This one? Talk to a vet. Seriously.”

Neutering is one of those topics.

Not your neighbor.
Not your mom.
Not your favorite cat group on Facebook.
And not even us — with all our years of furry experience.

Only your veterinarian.
Full stop.

In Austria, if your cat goes outdoors — and you’re not planning on turning your living room into a maternity ward — the law says: neutering is required.

And honestly? That law makes sense.
Because it’s not just about “a cat on the windowsill.”
It’s about kittens on every street corner.
And too many of them won’t be loved. Or wanted. Or safe.

But the when — that’s where it gets delicate.
It’s not as simple as, “Five months? Let’s do it.”
It’s more like, “Let’s look at the little soul in front of us.”

Because:

– A 4-month-old kitten with soft paws and baby eyes?
Still a baby.

– A 6-month-old full of energy, deepening voice, and marching hormones?
That’s a different story.

Yes, hormones matter.
Yes, their bones grow under hormonal guidance.
Yes, anesthesia is not “chips on the couch” — their body needs to be ready.

But all of that?
That’s thoughtful context — not a diagnosis.
And certainly not a DIY checklist from the internet.

Here’s what we do recommend:

– Find a vet you trust. One who knows a kitten from a chinchilla.
– Let them see your little one. Feel. Weigh. Listen. Observe.
– Let them say: “Yes, this baby’s ready” — or “Not just yet. Let them enjoy the windowsill a little longer.”

And when you decide from that place —
Not from pressure, not from forums, not from fear —
but from love, from knowledge, from your cat —

That’s the right decision.
The only one that truly honors this tiny life in your hands.
